ELKLAN Speech and Language Support for 5-11s
Cost: £350
Duration: 3 full days training (plus a 10-week time period for portfolio completion)
Includes: Delivery, lunch, resource manual and accreditation fees
This is an externally accredited course for those working with children aged 5-11 years. Delegates will be required to submit a portfolio following their attendance at this training in order to receive the accredited qualification. The course provides information and strategies to develop the communication skills of all children but especially those with speech, language and communication needs (SLCN). This interactive course equips delegates with innovative tools and methods to enhance children’s learning in the classroom and promotes quality first teaching.
Covered in the course:
- Improving listening, attention and independent learning skills
- Listening, memory and understanding spoken language
- Modifying adults’ speech to help a child understand language
- Promoting vocabulary development
- Encouraging expressive language and narrative development
- Promoting effective communication and social skills
- Supporting children with unclear speech and exploring the link between speech, reading and writing • Management of stammering and other issues raised during the course.
The outcomes that participants can expect from the course:
- A firm knowledge and understanding of SLCN
- A range of strategies and tools that can be implemented in everyday working practice in a classroom environment
- A Level 2 or Level 3 nine credit Award in Knowledge and Practice to Support the Communication Skills of 5-11s (both levels are now on the QCF).

- Play and social communication
- Listening, looking and understanding spoken language
- Promoting the development of vocabulary
- The Blank Level language scheme (or Language for Thinking)
- Modifying adult’s speech to help a child understand language
- Encouraging expressive language and narrative skills
- Supporting children with unclear speech and developing phonological awareness skills
- Management of stammering and other issues raised in the course.
The outcomes that participants can expect from the course:
- A firm knowledge and understanding of SLCN
- A range of strategies and tools that can be implemented in everyday working practice in a classroom environment

ELKLAN Supporting Verbal Pupils with ASD
Cost: £270
Duration: 2 full days training (plus a 5-week time period for portfolio completion)

This is an externally accredited course for those working with verbal children who have a diagnosis of ASD. Delegates will be required to submit a portfolio following their attendance at this training in order to receive the accredited qualification. This NEW UPDATED specialist course will provide learners with theoretical knowledge and an abundance of practical skills and ideas to support children and young people with autism and/or social communication needs. This training programme reflects the changes in diagnostic criteria and includes a whole session on managing pupils with sensory conditions in the classroom. It provides a great overview into good communication practice with those with ASD and has plenty of ‘hands on’ activities which help to apply the learning and makes the course very interactive. It’s a great ‘one stop shop’ from which further training programmes in specific techniques and programmes can be explored further.
