Solihull Approach (Part One)
2-day Foundation Training - Autumn 2024
For SENDCos, ELSAs, Family Support Workers and any member of school staff who would like to have a model for understanding the complexities of children’s presentations and for engaging with parents and other professionals using the language of Solihull Approach
The skills this training provides includes:
- A theoretical framework for thinking about the relationship between themselves, the child
and the parent - Highly practical way of working with children and with families
- Integrates the concepts of Containment, Reciprocity and Behavioural Management
What does it involve:
Led by two educational psychologists, you will receive:
- Two full training days
- Solihull Approach manual
Cost:
- £275 for EPIC partner schools
- £300 for non-partner schools
Dates and venue:
Each day will run from 9.30am – 4.00pm and will be held at Braunstone Community Primary School.

Solihull Approach (Part Two)
Parenting Group Facilitator Training - Summer 2025
As a follow-on from the Solihull Approach Foundation Training the Parenting Programme Training will prepare you to deliver your own Solihull Approach Parenting Group. The Solihull Approach Parenting Group is intended for parents and carers who want to know more about sensitive and effective parenting. It explores issues such as tuning into children, exploring feelings, parenting styles, communication, temper tantrums, sleep patterns and behavioural difficulties. It integrates the concepts of:
- Parent:child relationships
- Focus on feelings
- Containment
- Reciprocity
- Co-regulation
This programme can only be accessed once you have obtained 6+ months experience with Solihull Approach.
The skills this training provides includes:
- Ability to plan and deliver the 10-week Solihull Approach Parenting Group
- Parenting Group Facilitator Manual
- Opportunity to practise some of the group activities
What does it involve:
Led by an educational psychologist, you will receive:
- One full training day
- Solihull Approach Parenting Group Facilitator manual
Cost:
- £194 for EPIC partner schools
- £215 for non-partner schools
Dates and venue:
The day will run from 9.30am – 4.00pm and will be held at Braunstone
Community Primary School.

ELSA Training - Autumn 2024
- ELSA stands for Emotional Literacy Support Assistant.
- ELSAs are school staff who have received specific additional training from Educational Psychologists from whom they receive ongoing supervision following training.
- ELSAs are trained to plan and deliver programmes of support to pupils in their school who are experiencing temporary or longer-term emotional needs.
- Recognising and managing emotions
- Raising self-esteem
- Improving peer relationships
- Recovering from loss or bereavement
- Resolving conflict effectively
- Five full training days (covering the full 6-day ELSA training programme),
- 90-minute supervision session held in Autumn 2024,
- A copy of the Emotional Wellbeing manual.
- There is an expectation that all ELSAs must attend ongoing supervision following certification to remain qualified as an ELSA.
- £570 for EPIC partner schools
- £595 for non-partner schools
- The training consists of 5 full days of training. Delegates must attend all sessions to be registered as an ELSA.
- Each day will run from 9.30am – 3.30pm, and will be held at Mowmacre Hill Primary School.
