In order to become a qualified Speech and Language Therapist, you have to complete a certified Speech and Language Therapy course at either an undergraduate or postgraduate degree level. Most degree courses include compulsory placements which are an essential component for the completion of the course. EPIC Speech and Language Therapy Services are delighted to be working in collaboration with DeMontfort University, and will be offering a range of placements to students in the 2017-2018 academic year.

There are no set entry requirements to become a Speech and Language Therapy Assistant, although good numeracy and literacy skills and a qualification and/or experience in health and social care are an expectation. Speech and Language Therapy Assistants work under the direction of fully qualified Speech and Language Therapists and within EPIC Speech and Language Therapy Services, will have a key role supporting the Speech and Language Therapist’s work with children with a wide range of speech, language and communication difficulties.
Speech and Language Therapy Assistants can become associate members of the Royal College of Speech and Language Therapists (RCSLT) and will be supported to complete relevant CPD activities each year.

We are open to discussions with people who have an interest in pursuing a career in the field of Speech and Language Therapy and would like to gain some experience of being in an applied service in line with confidentiality and data protection. We have created a link with the Speech and Language Therapy department at DeMontfort University and will explore possible options for ‘volunteer’ opportunities with them over the 2017-2018 academic year.
